State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the plan for implementing the Centre of Nuclear Science and Technology (CNEST) construction project in Vietnam.
Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the State Corporation, signed the Memorandum on behalf of ROSATOM, and the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam, Tran Viet Thanh, signed it on behalf of Vietnam.
The Memorandum was signed in the presence of Vladimir Putin, the President of Russian Federation, and Tran Dai Quang, the President of Vietnam
The parties intend to further promote cooperation within the project to construct CNEST. In particular, there are plans to work through the next steps after the government of Vietnam approves the project’s preliminary feasibility study. The document also provides for consultations on the terms and conditions of project financing.
In addition, the partners are going to establish a plan for further cooperation in the development of Vietnam’s national nuclear infrastructure.
In 2011, Russia and Vietnam signed an agreement on cooperation in the construction of the Centre of Nuclear Science and Technology in Vietnam, and in 2014 – General Framework Agreement. The facility will be equipped with a research reactor built based on a Russian design, a multipurpose cyclotron, as well as R&D laboratories, an engineering complex, equipment and infrastructure to ensure the centre’s safe operation.
