November 23, 2021 – Rosatom breakthrough innovation and approach to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals were featured at the “SciTalk: The Role of International Collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation.” The SciTalk was held online on November 23 as the key-event of the annual National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration organized by the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines.

 

Inspired by TedTalk, wherein experts are invited to share their knowledge, SciTalk aims to provide a platform for foreign speakers to showcase their initiatives and programs for a specific field in Science, Technology, and Innovation. The SciTalk 2021 agenda covered such spheres as AI and Cybersecurity, Startups/Spinoffs, Agriculture, Nanotechnologies and Nuclear technology.

 

Mr. Egor Simonov, Director of Rosatom Southeast Asia Regional Center took part in the event together with Mr. Garfield Jones, who represented the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Mr. Eugene Wee, Director of the Enterprise A*STAR, Mr. Dai Xingzhao, President of Jiangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Mr. Saeed Sarkar, Secretary General of Iran Nanotechnology Innovation Council.

 

Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines Mr. Fortunato T. de la Peña welcomed all the speakers and participants and invited everyone to share their knowledge in different spheres in order to respond to the current pressing challenges.  

 

Mr. Egor Simonov noted that historically, the nuclear industry has been guided by sustainable development principles: the highest social standards, environmental responsibility, and safety. “When developing new businesses, Rosatom focuses particularly on the environmental impact, value creation and assessment of product solutions in terms of their alignment with the UN SDG priorities,” he stated bringing up a broad data showing how exactly nuclear energy contributed to the UN SDGs.

 

Mr. Simonov also talked about Rosatom latest project – Atoms for Humanity, a truly unique nuclear awareness initiative, which highlights the role nuclear technologies play in achieving the UN SDG from a human-centered perspective. The project is a collection of stories capturing different people from all over the world sharing how nuclear transforms their lives and helps fulfil dreams.

 

SciTalk event brought together more than 110 participants, who joined the event online from all over the world and more than 200 viewers at the Department of Science and Technology International Cooperation Facebook page. The SciTalk event created an opportunity for countries to join efforts and create new ways of sustainable development and future growth through international collaboration.
