TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom has established business integrator company for metallurgy business. Rusatom Metal Tech LLC has been incorporated on the basis of NANOELECTRO, a TVEL subsidiary.

The integrator company will consolidate and develop the expertise of various nuclear enterprises in non-nuclear metallurgy sectors. First of all, the facilities of Chepetsky Mechanical plant, a modern full cycle plant embracing operations from hydrometallurgy to rolling-mill, manufacturing a wide range of products made of high-melting and light metals, as well as their alloys. Besides, Rusatom Metal Tech will coordinate development and commercialization of metallurgy products, integrating the expertise of such companies as Elemash Machine-building Plant, Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, Elemash Magnit, Centrotech and Bochvar Institute (all – enterprises of TVEL Fuel Company).

As the primary products range, the company will focus on titanium bars, wires and tubes, which are applied in high-tech industries, such as ship building, aerospace and medicine, as well as calcium metal, calcium solid wire, zirconium, niobium, tantalum, hafnium, tungsten, vanadium, permanent rare earth magnets of neodymium-iron-boron system for wind power equipment, and also conductors, such as high-strength copper-niobium wires for high-speed railways.

At the moment, TVEL facilities have already accomplished the contracts for supply of various titanium goods, concluded new contracts for supply of compact storage racks for nuclear power plants, develop tantalum and hafnium products, new models of calcium solid wire. The export-focused projects of tube assemblies and additive manufacturing wire production in cooperation with the German Hermith GmbH are also under implementation, as well as production of implants for osteosynthesis.

In 2020, TVEL’s revenues from the metallurgical business amounted to about six billion rubles, exceeding the strategy scenario even in the face of COVID-affected market conditions, in the coming years the company is anticipating the further growth.
