The diploma award ceremony has been held for the first group of Vietnamese graduates of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI today. 28 students from Vietnam have received their diplomas, completing 6 years of studies.

This group of graduates is the first of its kind for MEPhI. It is the first time that foreign students received education and degrees in a program supported by the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM. These graduates were the first to come to Russia to receive education in atomic engineering under international projects of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM.

At the end of January the students of the group defended their graduation projects successfully, all with positive evaluation; three were marked by the commission as outstanding. The students worked on their graduation projects under the guidance of leading specialists of the Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI for about a year. In addition to the comments of the graduation project supervisors, official comments of experts and scientists of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM enterprises were obtained for each project. Defence of graduation projects became a logical conclusion for the training process which had lasted for more than 6 years.

“About 1,400 foreign students from all over the world are studying in Russia within the framework of the ROSATOM projects. The young people who had successfully passed the exams and demonstrated a high level of academic knowledge deserved the right to gain unique education in atomic engineering in leading Russian higher education institutions. We are happy that the first group of students from Vietnam has completed their studies in atomic engineering with brilliant results in the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI”, Valery Karezin, Director of Educational Projects, the HR service of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, said.
Valery Karezin also pointed out that “the knowledge the graduates have received can be used for active development of the national nuclear program both in Vietnam and in other countries which stepped on the path of atoms for peace. One of employment opportunities for the graduates may be provided by the Center of Nuclear Energy and Technologies”.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, government agencies and the scientific community. The International Friendship Hall was opened in the building of the Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in honour of the first international group of graduates. After that diplomas were awarded to the first graduates of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Palace of Culture of the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering.

For reference:
Russia has been implementing the educational program for the Vietnamese nuclear energy industry jointly with Vietnam since 2010. More than 400 students from Vietnam came to Russia in the period from 2010 to 2016 to receive education in nuclear engineering.
